3 months post op!

I didn't update for a loooooong time.  Doing good!  I am down 51 lbs all together.  I am finally able to get into some of my old clothes, so glad.  I move to Hawaii a couple weeks ago, and that has been a great boost to my health.  I'm getting a lot more exercise and getting out and about.

4 weeks post op!

Time does fly... feeling better mostly - two steps forward, one back.  Today was rough.  Started my period and my hormones were on like Donkey Kong - I literally felt high.  I am wondering if the surgery cause a change in hormones.  OMG I can't do this again next month.

I have lost 15 lbs since surgery.  Seems a lot slower than most, but I think there are two reasons. One is that I was eating so healthy before surgery that I just didn't have that initial big drop in me.  So far I think I've lost about 33 lbs. The other reason is that I've lost so weight so many times that my metabolism is broken.

No noticeable change in body, maybe my pants are slightly loose.

3 weeks post op

Well, I meant to write sooner, but everytime I thought about it I just felt dread.  Too tired to write!  Anyway, doing much better.  The first week was HELL.  But, its gone much better since.

I realized today I have already lost 25% of my excess weight - thats incredible to me.  Since I started all of this on Dec 24th, 2010 I have lost 31 lbs.  I think I'm so heavy that most people won't notice, but I feel better and I am glad to see the scale move.  My clothes fit a LOT better which is nice - I was just about to go up a size before I started this.

I am very happy my lapband is gone! Its a whole new experience with the DS.  I'm sure not all days are going to be wonderful, and they haven't been perfect so far, but everyday without a lap band is better than the day before.

I'm still pretty tired most of the time.  Today is my first day back at work and I am already beat.  I'd like to go home and veg!  I am getting better with the vitamin and protein regime - its a lot to do each day, including the fluid consumption.

Vitamins
  • 3 multi vitamin 4X daily
  • 1 multigen (iron and folic acid) 4 X daily
  • 50K IUs of D daily
  • 1000 MG of calcium citrate 3X daily (but I haven't been doing this one - kind find one I can stand)
  • B12 shot weekly
Protien
  • Mostly getting it from 1 to 2 shakes daily and food
  • Supposed to be doing 30 grams of protein shakes 5X daily, but they are so unnatural and gross.
Fluids
  • Supposed to do 80 oz daily, but I am probably getting in 64 oz
Most of these I don't feek bad or guilty about - I'm only 3 weeks out and I know it will get easier over time. I'm not excercising.  I think I have PTSD from all my past diet and excercise programs. The thought of the gym makes me shut down - I am not going to put myself through that. I would like to lose enough weight to get comfortable in my body, then become more active in my life through joyous activities.  Hiking, boating, maybe even ride a horse again. I would like to be a naturally fit person through my day to day life, not a gym membership.  We shall see....

All for now!

4 days to go

Other than this being the sixth day of the liquid diet and my TOM coming this weekend (both of those things suck a LOT) I'm doing ok.  I'm really looking forward to the next step which is surgery, then counting out the weeks until my weight is in an acceptable/happy range.

I am a lap band revision.  I've had it for 3 years.  For so long, I felt like such a failure, the way I always do on any other diet.  For me, the lapband has been nothing more than a whole new eating disorder with the constant finger pointing of "you're abusing your tool" or  "you're not following the rules".  It has been a medically supervised shame-fest, with all of the same old feelings of guilt.  Crushing guilt, day in and day out.  I have never wanted something out of my body as badily as I want out this lapband.

Today I went to the lapband forum and found a bunch of my old posts from years ago. I'm sad for that girl - all the things she was concerned about were infact true.  There are just a few very successfull bandsters and I let their overwhelming conviction override any rational concerns I had.  The lapband is definately not the "thinking persons WLS" the way the DS is.  Now when I visit the lapband forum it just makes me sad - sad for all the people who are struggling and the insantiy of the pollyanna's pushing guilt and shame down everyones throat.  I read those messages from DS'ers back then, but by then I already felt a kinship with the band folks - I was so lonely back then and I bonded quickly.  But quietly, I was insanely jealous and wished I had it so good. My family at the time was against WLS, but the lapband was something they didn't completely balk at.

Now here I am, 3 years later, and am happy as can be I am getting the DS.  I don't have any second thoughts, I don't have any pressue of friends or family to not do it.  At this point I am a stronger person and firmly believe I am not a failure.  I have done a lot of things "wrong" with my band but I haven't done anything "wrong" to me. I'm a smart girl, I've been well trained in all things diet and excercise, and I am at a point where I am ready to accept myself, love and trust myself, and I know the DS will work for me. I could list a hundred reasons why I am overweight from my will power to my genes to life style, but why doesnt really matter anymore.  My weight is a problem that needs to stop being a problem NOW before I am too old and sick. I'm ready to do what it takes (even though I might bitch and complain along the way) to make this work, once and for all.
